A Week in India

Well being a Malaysian, we would have tasted all the three main cultures such as Malay, Indian and Chinese cuisines. Let’s take some time looking into the Indian meals. To start with, an obvious fact we all know that Indian food originated from India. At the end of June, I made a trip to India and it was exciting to see all the amazing dishes that was being served there. I was shocked with the varieties of side dishes that came along with the main course. i would say for everyone who wants to get the gist of Indian food should go treat themselves with one of the Indian speciality dishes which will be discussed below.

Whenever you go to a restaurant, you start off with something light to eat which is also known as starters. The best starter is Masala Vada. It is a savory fritter prepared with Chana dal and few spices. They are deep fried and served hot.
Next will be the main course, the famous South Indian meal is called Thali Meal. Thali which means plate in tamil is an Indian and Nepalese meal made up of a selection of various dishes. It simply means a round platter used to serve food.

Or you can eat the famous banana leaf rice. Banana leaf rice is a traditional method of serving rice dishes in South Indian cuisine.

Or last but not least, people prefer to eat biryani. It is an Indian dish made with hi

ghly seasoned rice and meat, fish, or vegetables. The meat varies from chicken, mutton, prawn and many others.

My most favourite dish is Chicken Tikka Masala. It is a dish of roasted chunks of chicken in a spicy sauce. The sauce is usually creamy, spiced and orange-coloured. OMG people you should totally try this! Apparently it is Britain’s favourite dish!

Other than this, you can choose to eat dosa or paratha or puri. These foods are usually eaten in the morning for breakfast or at night for dinner but can be also eaten for lunch. Dosa is a fermented crepe made from rice batter and black lentils. Paratha is a flat, thick piece of unleavened bread fried on a griddle. Puri is a small, round, flat piece of bread made of unleavened wheat flour, deep-fried and served with meat or vegetables.

Last but not least, we all have desserts after our meals. The best desserts are Gulab Jamun and Kesari. Gulab jamun is a milk-solids-based dessert. Kesari is a sweet dessert dish that is traditionally prepared with Semolina (cream of wheat), but that maybe substituted with 'beaten rice' (aval) or at times even with rice.

The drinks that we normally drink at the start or the end of day is bru coffee and masala tea. Masala tea is a flavoured tea beverage made by brewing black tea with a mixture of aromatic Indian spices and herbs. Bru coffee is just normal coffee.
