How The Internet Has Altered Our Lives

Recently, my friends & I went to lepak at Maistreet in TTDI and while we HAD a good time, suddenly everyone started to pick up their smartphones and totally ignore the rest of the world. At that moment, I realized that we've come to an age where our eyes will always be filtered through a screen before anything is focused and permanently altered. That screen would obviously be a technology medium.

Personally, I feel as though the Digital Age has altered us to feel obligated by technology and our surroundings which are external and materialistic things such as OOTD's, how many likes you can get for you insta picture, which hipster cafe have you checked in?, what Nike shoes are you gonna get?" or "did you get the latest IPhone?". People get so caught up in this bubble where you stop realizing reality. As the world changes, no one stops to look around and admire anything anymore.
Interpersonal communication is deteriorating slowly and somehow if you don't have a communication medium, you practically don't exist.

As a teenager, everything revolves around the internet. Even my assignment requires the internet. We wake up and the first thing we do is check our social media and not an hour or more will go by that we don't. Don't get me wrong, the internet has given humans many benefits and saved us so much time but in circumstances of how and when we should use it. I think some people consume too much of the internet they don't know how much the internet has control over them. Even parents give their children an Ipad and get on youtube just to keep them distracted. If those babies are already consuming the internet at that young age, who knows what they will learn in 5 years.

As Newton would say, "A force is a push or a pull that acts upon an object as a results of its interaction with another object.", basically it means that with every action comes with a reaction. Therefore, when the internet was invented, there would be good and bad implications. In my observations, I believe that the internet has contributed many good things at the start, however now, the internet, seems like its been taken for granted. People have become ignorant and blind to other perspectives and the environment when there is a bigger picture of the whole world whereas the internet only gives a certain view of the world based on what we search on google.

To put in a nutshell, balance is needed. We need a balance on when we use the internet and when to acknowledge our environment. We should be aware of our surroundings and our reality. Its good to be open minded in life, therefore we need a balance on both Interent and the environment. Theres always a bigger picture, not just a view from our 4.4 inch screen.

Thanks for reading!
